the bob and weave that shouldn’t be

my car rides pretty low to the ground, so you don’t really see inside other people’s vehicles too well…

…but my delivery van for tattoo supplies is a whole different story.

one thing i’ve noticed is that the tesla idea, that basically an ipad-sized screen needs to be mounted front and center in the dash, has really taken hold of automotive design both domestically and abroad. so, am i to understand, that in this age where we can get pulled over and ticketed (and possibly deported, depending on geography and melanin content) for using our phone screen while on the road the idea of a built in tablet in the car is just fine?

tech pun intended, how daphuk does that compute?

my wife has, for better or worse, allowed me to indulge myself on this in the sense that i have three vehicles, all five years apart, all in various states of road worthiness, but all in various tech “eras”. one has no screen, no backup camera, and no turbo on the engine. i did, inadvertently, add bluetooth to it when i upgraded the radio to listen to music off my phone (it also has an ipod mounted in it, but for some reason the whole apple music thing wiped out all music imported from my collection to itunes so it’s kept around to keep my bootleg cd’s available as well as titles that i own that never made it to streaming).

the next one up had plenty of luxury features (heated and air conditioned and massaging front seats, great climate control, power everything) but crap speakers, so i famously swapped all sixteen factory speakers out so she sounded pretty but thanks to a six point buck at seventy she now only has one headlight and some body damage, but has recently been back on the road after an eighteen month hiatus and has the longest list of projects needed. that being said, she still puts pics of who’s calling me up on the screen, which the newest member of the fleet doesn’t so, but makes up for that in other fun techie ways.

the biggest screen of all (and the only touch screen) is the one we upgraded nik’s x1 with, and even that is relatively tiny compared to a lot of the other vehicles out there, where i upgraded her from this…

…to this…

but i don’t think i could go with the monstrous things they have these days…it would drive me nuts. unless the vehicle is really, really cool, of course…and the brightness can be dialed down in a BIG way at night.
