the acl review from the guy that didn’t get to go to acl

i’m trying to come to terms with this…

…but it ain’t easy.

for the first time since 1993 depeche mode has now played in austin…TWICE this year. my favorite band, in my city, TWICE (soon to be three times) in twenty years, and i will strike out missing all three.

this kinda sucks for me.

yeah, i got to see ’em in houston a month ago, and it was a great show. kept my streak of not missing a tour in twenty-five years (fuck me, i’m old) but two weekends of acl headlined by them on friday and (another long time favorite) the cure on saturday is sucking for me – mainly because of social media. while everybody from close friends to former co-workers to ex-girlfriends post pics of the view they had friday for depeche…

or the view they had saturday for the cure…

i had the same view all weekend…

and will have it MOST of next weekend…

…except for friday.

and while i DIDN’T drop the money for a three, or even one night pass to weekend two of acl (which is not sold out) i forgot i DID get a ticket to see vince clarke’s dj set, which just happens to be the same night as depeche mode but was recently pushed to go on AFTER they were off stage…

…and as vince was a founding member of depeche, i wonder if that little club is gonna turn into an unplanned acl after party? after their gig this weekend depeche trekked off to vegas – but after next week they’re off for six weeks.

might still save a bit of this experience after all…
