not enough fiber in my diet?

it’s something we all hope will happen to us eventually…

…and here it finally did – fiber internet has come to town.

be careful what you wish for – you just might get it.

yes, we have fiber internet. they’ve dragged it far as the end of my street. i saw the crews doing it, and saw the truck logos. i’d never heard of them, but figured they were just working for one of the big guys as a subcontractor. this proved not to be the case. i was hoping we were getting spectrum, or better yet, google fiber. they’ve had it austin long enough that i had to take back harold’s modem for him when he moved to hawaii.

but such was not meant to be – the logos on the truck, per the mailings i’ve now received twice, are the company that’s doing the dang thing…rise broadband.

i’ll save you the google search – they’re rated 1.2 stars on yelp. this will NOT be happening.

at least not for a while. if i have some friends get it and be happy with it then we might reconsider. yeah, we’ll miss out on “special introductory pricing” or whatever, but i’d rather err on the side of caution with this shit. we have spectrum now, and it’s plenty fast UNLESS os decides to download some game, in which case i have to turn WiFi off on my phone to get it to work. fortunately that doesn’t happen often, but as i have pc parts sitting in the entryway to my house for some new gaming rig, i suppose it might be more of a thing. that being said, i don’t believe we have their “maximum speed package” or anything, so we’ll see where this takes us when all is said and done.
