early today i had a “circle of life” moment…
…childhood flashbacks and shit.
when i was a kid i remember three distinct cigar smokers in my world. one was oscar, the guy who did the lawn and garden work at my grandparent’s place off windsor road in the “tarrytown” section of austin. secondly was my grandfather, and thirdly was my buddy trey’s dad, bill. to show how cigars are all chock full of vitamins and shit two of the three are still alive – and while the one who isn’t, my grandfather, DID die of cancer it was prostate cancer which can only be caused by cigars if you smoke then with the wrong end of your anatomy which, to my knowledge, he never did. while trey and i haven’t spoken in years (not for any small town drama reasons, it’s just the way shit goes sometimes) bill is my family’s attorney, handling all the affairs when my mom passed in ’96, and most recently when we handled my grandmother’s affairs (who died in ’02 but due to my uncle’s lack of time recognition and abundance of sentimentality things weren’t finally settled out (legally) until this year. (and the only reason i added the “legally” part to this was because final resting of her earthly remains has yet to be settled – don’t ask).
anyway, enough of the family drama and bullshit – the reason for this bit was that i was able to complete a “circle of life” in true smoke ring form today ’cause i had told bill that if all went well and smooth with this i’d tip him with a cigar or two. all went BEYOND smooth, but due to him being semi-retired his office hours are a bit erratic. today all finally lined up, and i was able to settle up the last of the bill with find dominican and nigaraguan tobacco…which giving cigars to one of the guys i remember always having one in his mouth as a kid was a nice way to bring things back around. now, i’m gonna bring that housecleaning thing around, as it IS my saturday and all…
