boy, was Mom way off base on this one…
ME has said before “no good deed goes unpunished”…seems the state of texas agrees.
i was all sorts of excited back a couple months ago. the state of texas had started an “amnesty program” for people with surcharges (i.e. the extra state whammy for when you break certain driving laws, which for my money is a violation of double jeopardy as the city or county that wrote you a ticket gets THEIR money, then the state swoops in for theirs). for the aggrieves violation of letting my car insurance lapse when i was unemployed and therefore broke as shit the judge dropped my local fine from $325 to $100 – but the STATE surcharge was still in effect – $260…per year…for three years. that’s $780 total.
that’s bullshit considering you didn’t hurt anybody. for damn near eight bills you should get to punch the cop of your choice in the face.
so, i hear about the “amnesty program” and when i go online it shows i don’t qualify, but have a ZERO balance as i had paid off the $260 from last year. “sweet”, i thought, “i guess they just wave the other two since i was a good boy and paid all my shit off last year.” momma would be proud…
than i got the bill in the mail.
turns out i didn’t qualify for amnesty BECAUSE i was good and paid off my shit in a timely manner. the amnesty program is to help out the irresponsible fucks that didn’t and are now running around on suspended or revoked licenses ’cause they couldn’t afford to pay their shit. because i was GOOD and never let that happen i get FUCKED and have to pay full price.
see what being the cool, responsible guy (like Mom always told me to be) gets you around here?
