run the past

while my radio career has made it on here once or twice, what i don’t bring up much is i used to write record reviews. for several magazines. for, like, six years or so. since i was freelancing, and therefore self-employed and not on proper staff of any of the publications, it would technically be my second longest running gig behind my current one.

and tonight, i’ll reprise the role:

because today run the jewels dropped rtj4…fucking finally!

they dropped one and two a year apart (2013 & 2014) and then made us wait only two years for rtj3 (2016). but then fucking FOUR years for rtj4.

daphuk?

i was nervous as fuck ’cause the first single or two dropped and i really wasn’t impressed. but in a reversal of what has become all too common (where the singles are fire and the rest of the album might as well have been farts on a snare drum) they actually have a lot better tracks on this than the singles woulda led you to believe.

it’s solid.

and it’s free. now.

(it’s on all the streaming services, and if you’d rather just download it, click the word “now” above.)

as you see it was supposed to drop friday, so it was awesome to see an email that started with “FUCK IT, WHY WAIT?” followed by ““The world is infested with bullshit so here’s something raw to listen to while you deal with it all. We hope it brings you some joy. Stay safe and hopeful out there.”

only thirty five minutes long but pretty solid, save for maybe one or two (and you can see how many there are, so that’s not shabby – they can’t all be winners!) it’s worth the check out.
