no filter (not what you think it means)

so, as many of you may or may not recall, i used the guise of needing safe passage to and from houston to see the rolling stones in april to justify purchasing new rims and run flat tires for my car…

…but then the tour got postponed due to mick jagger’s chronic fatigue.

(to his credit, he DID just turn seventy-six)

the makeup date was last night, and so fourteen hours before i was supposed to get on the road one of my pricey run-flat tires decided it needed to do this:

it was 1:30am on saturday, i was going 95mph on the toll road (thankfully down from 125mph earlier) and i heard a loud BAM! and then the chime indicating a drop in tire pressure. i knew i didn’t hit something because…

a. i didn’t see anything in the road prior to said noise

and…

b. at that speed there’s no way i could hit something with JUST the back tire

but as the back tire is wider and therefor pricier (almost $500 retail) this kinda sucked. fortunately the next morning my used tire place had literally ONE tire in the size i needed, and it happened to be a perfect match:

so $75 later i was good. as i said on my post, “god bless (the as yet to be gentrified section of) east austin!”

and a couple hours later i was on the road. my navigation software said it was a three hour journey, but multiple highway construction zones and my nav system deciding to route my through neighborhoods turned it into five hours instead. but at the end of the journey…

not bad seats. not good, but not bad. i thought they’d be a lot worse, honestly. i also didn’t realize the stadium had a retractable roof, so it was actually really nice in there. the set list was good, the place was nice, and the trip back i didn’t TOUCH my navigation software. instead i opted for my more reliable single glance at google maps to verify a lack of traffic snags and take the route that made the most sense to me. even with two stops back i was home in under three hours. if this ends up being the last tour and therefore the final texas show, they went out on a good note…
