i cheated on one of my favorite mexicans today

i’m not proud of it, but it happens…

…and of course i’m talking about chacho’s in san antonio.

it’s not a restaurant, despite how they market themselves. it’s a bar, who’s food is marginal at best (except for the carne guisada tacos, which are amazing) and designed, in my opinion, purely for alcohol absorption. it’s the one bar that actually made me had to spend the night in the town it was in due to drinking too much. no place in lockhart, san marcos, austin, or even new orleans has done that.

but chacho’s has. well, and a place in vegas. but we’ll ignore that last one for now.

but then chacho’s got something truly unique:

the frozen jack & coke.

true awesomeness in a glass. but worth the drive to san antonio? when i was dating a girl or two there, hells yeah. now, as i drive around austin all day for a living? not so much. but enter big daddy’s burgers, which has some of the most ridiculous burgers you’ll ever see (a half pounder topped with two cheese enchiladas and chili? fucking seriously?) now has the brown icy sludge as well.

the downside? chacho’s sixteen ouncer is six-fitty. their’s is eight bucks.

but with two rounds that’s a difference of three bucks, or less than a gallon of gas. and even in kramer’s sissy-ass hybrid a gallon of gas won’t get you from north austin to san antonio AND BACK.

so i guess this was a win. sometimes cheating pays off, i suppose.

Funny side note – I’m reading this bit for the first time since I wrote it (January 30th) while hanging with my buddy Watts at Chacho’s in San Antonio drinking frozen Jack n’ Cokes…
