forgone four pistons…for now

M’s got a weird noise…

…and if it wasn’t so intermittent, i’d be dealing with it right now.

but two route days with a 512 workout squeezed in (that’s my ‘leg day’ – five quad exercises, one core exercise, two calf exercises), and i’m a bit beat today, so this morning has consisted of a shit, shower, shave, and breakfast with the fam.

laundry will get put away. i’ll probably pull grey off the charger and pull him up closer. but i’m super achy so far this morning, so unless this rockstar really kicks in it’s probably gonna be an “i don’t taste outside air today” kinda day. but back to the noise…

it’s metallic and grinding. sounds very similar to when her back brakes pushed the issue and i had to change the pads (i was hella nervous having never done brembo performance calipers and never woulda guessed they were actually easier than normal brakes). it also might be the wheel hub. the sad part – i have all the parts. both the wheel hub bearing AND the brake pads. all good shit, too. i even have the tools. while i DO need brake cleaner, that’s really about it. but there’s a bolt on the hub that every video i watched says is a nightmare and their camera cuts off while they deal with it for, apparently, hours. i’m not sure how i handle that.

hell, i’m not sure how i handle any of it.

getting the wheels on and off will be the most physically strenuous part of the job for me…the brakes, assuming they’re pretty similar to the back ones, are pretty easy. i also plan on upgrading the turn signals because for some reason i got a wild hair months ago and bought led ones so as long as the wheel’s off it seems like that’s the time to fuck with ’em. on the side with the noise, i’ll raise her up, and spin the wheel and see if i hear the noise, which i kinda expect to. then off goes the wheel and tire and i spin the brake rotor. if the noise doesn’t persist then i know it’s probably the hub and the wheel weight is showing it’s failing? if the noise is still there sans wheel, i’ll remove the pins and clip and pull the brake pads so the rotor can spin freely. if that’s quiet, maybe it was the brakes? only putting on the fresh pads and putting wheel weight on will tell me for sure.

next week appears to be noticeably warmer so today would be the day to do this, especially with wednesday being a david week and all, but while the noise was heavy and grinding on friday night when i went home, it wasn’t even audible last night. which is weird.

so, we’ll see – as of now it’s barely after eleven am – guess i’ll see where the day takes me.
