so i was fully stoked about this. one of the first magazines i worked for straight outta high school (1989) had a promo of gas face (they also had a full page ad in our first issue) and i was hooked from the jump. own all 12″ singles off the first album, which was released as the cactus “cee/dee”, “cass/ette”, “al/bum”, and “videe/yo” or something to those effects. i own all four. shit, a set of these even hang over the left corner of my desk i’m sitting at typing this…

i got every album, every remix i could get my hands on. the second album was pretty good, but no cactus. i bought their solo shit, and even the serch ecko clock that came out later (which i’m sure has died via battery leakage by now). i never did get to see ’em live, but was thrilled when a recent show about curating the hip hop museum came out and pete nice was one of the curators/hosts of the show. so when i saw that post that kicked this off over lunch the other day i was elated but read one thing that seemed extremely suspect to me…

and that’s what sowed the seed of doubt. a quick check of imdb confirmed it – there was zero about the doc in there, and then read more and more of the comments and saw quest was duped into thinking it was legit as well, but it wasn’t. that broke my heart. i’d love to see a documentary on these guys, but i guess it isn’t happening. so much for the jews running hollywood, huh?
