triggered much?

whatever happened to “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me?”

seriously?

i mean, don’t get me wrong – i know words can have meaning and power. i’ve written long enough to get that. but i don’t get the modern censorship movement, where words that AREN’T profanity are now censored. allow me to explain…

…i get the fact that the phrase “child rape” is unpleasant. in fact, quite honestly, if you don’t find the phrase even remotely unpleasant i would think something was wrong with you. that being said, i can still read that and get on with my day…i don’t have to have it say “ch*ld r*pe” or something, but that’s the current trend. words like “sex” are now “s#x” or what have you and i’m not understanding why.

is it a trigger word thing? that’s really they only thing that makes sense…

do you know what my grandmother’s trigger words were? that was a trick question – there weren’t any. she was born in 1907…that kind of thing didn’t exist for them. same with my folks (both born in the 1940’s) – not a thing. honestly, pretty much the same for me. in fact, i’m of the opinion that if you’re generation x, and you have trigger words, you are now, at the least, a millennial. sorry, but dem’s da breaks – you can’t claim to be all punk rock and shit AND have trigger words. we walked home from school to empty houses, got ourselves a snack, plopped down in front of the tv, and then did our homework (occasionally). we wore our house keys on a chain around our neck. you can’t grow up like that with “trigger words”.

but seriously, why does every other story i see reposted feel the need to censor words that don’t need to be censored? for fuck’s sake, at this point we have government officials so uncivilized that they use “shit” and “fuck” in front of hot mics and these are septuagenarians – are there really any words that need censoring? is the idea of profane speech dead?

if so, i say about fucking time…
