number nine, number nine, number eight?

pardon while i go stream of consciousness for a second…

…missed the mirage show, so first one was downward in 94 at the erwin center. second was with bowie at south park meadows (rip), third was at starplex amphitheater in dallas, fourth with alex (this time in san antonio) for “with teeth”, fifth was technically selma (which is like north ass san antonio) with bauhaus opening, sixth was the ninja tour (also at frank erwin center), seventh was with nik at COTA double headlining with soundgarden, and now the eight time was sunday at moody…

…i think. that seems right.

we started with good parking (i have “excellent parking karma, nik says) and then ran into my old buddy chuck stanley at the merch tent, and as we’d all arrived over an hour before doors, had a nice catch up visit before heading in. it brought a lot of things full circle – the last show i ran into chuck was metallica in 2017 down in san antonio, which was the first show i could recall where there was a second, smaller stage in the middle of the crowd. and the first time i ever saw nine inch nails? that was back in 1994, at the frank erwin center, seated on the floor, about row thirteen, next to none other than chuck fuckin’ stanley.

the seats nik scored were good, and there was a nice lounge at the top of the section we relaxed in before the show.

normally i throw my own pics up here, but normally my pics are pretty good. this time (thanks primarily to a whole lotta fog machine usage) that wasn’t possible, so i bring you professionally done shots instead. it’s the first show i can ever recall where the opener (boys noize) transitioned seamlessly into the main act, which bounced between a small stage…

…with a soulful, acoustic version of “something i can never have” from 1989’s pretty hate machine (and a few other tracks) to a larger, arena sized stage…

and back again. it was a cool presentation, and i hope to get a playlist going off the set list soon (if i can figure out how to upload tracks to apple music). until then we at least have the memories of a great night!
