the needle(s) and the damage done

so, friday i had my first acupuncture appointment…

…it was interesting.

towards the end of man on the moon, jim carrey (as andy kaufman), goes for some “miracle treatment” for cancer and, while waiting in line, sees behind the curtain (quite literally) to see the “tumors” the guy is removing are just palmed chicken guts (or whatever) and realizes it’s all a hoax and just get this look on his face showing he now realizes he’s just gonna die…

…i feel that way sometimes. not like i’m gonna die, just never walk right again. never ride a bike again. never hop on a board again. and, i’m sorry, but i just can’t accept that…

i’ve been trying various pills and stretches and this and that and the other. “physical therapy” just wasn’t for me (when he started talking about my teeth being part of the problem due to “grounding” i knew we weren’t gonna work out) and chiropractic manipulation seemed to help the back issues, but not so much the quads where the real problem lies, and the spinal issues returned with a vengeance within seventy-two hours.

so, then three different guys, most slightly younger (one slightly older) not only recommended acupuncture as the cure to what ails me, but with this one guy in particular, i decided to throw a bill at it. fun fact – he’s in network for nik’s insurance plan, but i’m not on it, so i have to pay a hundred bucks a session. in the end, he seems to think it’s bursitis (i feel like i went down that road at one point as well), i still think anterior pelvic tilt leading to psoas syndrome (it hits all the buckets, including the constant back popping, which bursitis wouldn’t explain).

it was interesting – i didn’t expect him to start by stabbing needles in my scalp (those stung the most, but only for a second or two) and i also didn’t expect electricity to come into play, but overall it wasn’t a bad experience. was it the miracle cure i hoped for? no – but i think my expectations in that regard were highly unrealistic. session number two comes up this friday, and we’ll see if we see any progress. next week, more than likely, will get skipped (especially if i don’t feel some bigger jump in the healing process) due to me doing these on friday and it’ll be friday the 13th again, which is kind of a thing at both my jobs.

or maybe i’ll just schedule it thursday seeing as how it’s two minutes from the shop i’m cleaning out? let’s see where this part of the journey takes us, shall we?
