in 2023 my dream concert lineup came thru, month in and month out, like all my big favorite bands were coming to say good-bye to me or something…

and then in 2024, i went to only two, but both stacked bills – in may, to start the summer, i saw souls of mischief & the pharcyde & cypress hill. (i also apparently used that graphic back then) in august, i went and saw agnostic front & reverend horton heat & suicidal tendencies & the misfits.

so, this year, i was supposed to see a few bands i’d always liked, but never seen. first was fishbone. nik’s friend from vegas is tight with angelo, the lead singer, and she was coming to town to see them and follow them around the state. nik had a night out with her the night before the show that wiped her out, so we ended up having to skip the show. next i was supposed to go see joey valence & brae, but i wasn’t sure how well i’d hold up physically with the multi-tier mohawk so i bailed. finally, there was disclosure. this was honestly the one i was looking forward to the most, but it was in houston. and, without me realizing it, it passed and i’d missed it…but then an announcement came they were playing not only in austin, but at a venue on the outskirts of town going towards me! like, less than half an hour away!

but by the time i found out the show was already way sold out. i even emailed the venue to no avail. but then i saw it was till 2am on a school night (i’m at the age where i see far, far, FAR more 2pm’s than 2am’s) and didn’t feel quite as bad. the next morning when the photos dropped and i saw it was literally the two brothers, their decks, and their fist pumping. more of a dj set than a show. not bad, wish i’d grabbed a shirt, but not the end of the world i missed them. maybe next time.
