you’re number one!

i have, on more than one occasion, given a fellow driver the one finger salute…

…i ain’t proud of it, but it happens.

but these two guys shoulda listened. i’m just saying.

guy, the first

i was driving out southwest parkway when i noticed a really pretty green bmw m4 behind me. not one of the new “beaver tooth” ones, the ones the same era as m, my coupe. every time i changed lanes, it changed lanes, almost like it was following me. to the driver, however, i think it looked like i was trying to block him. as he pulled up next to him i smiled and gave the thumbs up to show i thought he had a dope ride, but out of my peripheral vision saw him…a travis county sheriff’s car in the median. i instantly started waving my hand up and down, gesturing him to slow down, but he instead gave me the finger and punched it.

instant cop lights. i agree it is a road that BEGS to be driven fast as it’s hilly and windy and wide…but it’s also capped with a ridiculous 55mph speed limit. i’m pretty sure this is where sammy was inspired to write the song…

guy, the second

so fast forward a bit less than half an hour and i’m now heading home from work, in m, and i have this idiot in a white tesla that keeps trying to race me. we get to the two lane light to turn onto southwest parkway from 71, and when the green hits we both take off. i admit, i was kinda egging him on a bit, but it’s a sucker bet. electric motors don’t have to build up compression like normal ones, so they’re faster off the line. any idiot knows this. so i kinda hung for fun but then remembered where that sheriff had been and new we were fast approaching the spot, but from an angle where he’d see us before we saw him. in the waning hours of daylight the tesla pulled up to me and i gave the same “slow down” gesture as before and garnered the same one finger wave followed by rapid acceleration. from behind me…

…and down went the white tesla.
