white folk problems (kinda fixed?)

so, the first bootleg rolex i ever got started having a weird problem a few months back…

…it was stuck on the 19th.

it’s a very accurate homage to the real thing – a friend who deals with them on the reg needed to use his loop to know it wasn’t bona fide. i told him it had only one tell i knew of: the date, rather than changing at midnight, changed at 10:47pm. as a result i would never wear it on nights i closed the shop because it would be off for the end of the shift and if i was filling out legal paperwork i’d always just glance at the watch and wrote what it said so that wouldn’t fly.

but a few months ago, out of the blue, its date stuck on “19” and wouldn’t advance – you’d see it try, kinda “click”, and then go back to “19”. so i put it on a stand and told myself, “well, i guess you’ll only wear it on the 19th going forward”, and i would usually remember that when i reached for it on the 16th or 21st or whatever, but never remembered it on the actual 19th.

until today – and apparently, it was some kinda curse? i guess?

the reason i say that is finally wearing it on the 19th, at 10:47 last night (while on my dresser but still kinetically charged) it rolled over to the 20th. now, if i try to just dial change the date? no go. but if i wind the time forward it (so far) will cycle thru the days (i only pushed it to the 22nd so far) so maybe, just maybe, it’ll be good going forward? it would be nice to work it back into the rotation again!

now to just get that latest tire issue resolved…
