saturday cartoons (bit)

in the age of streaming, i still have a dvr…

…and i use it. a lot.

not like i’m rockin’ a tivo or something. it’s a direct tv genie or some such thing, but it does the job. i record shows and watch them later due to work schedules and such. but some shows are always set to record new shit when it comes out…like the simpsons, or family guy. it’s not set to record ALL of the showings, of course, due to them being massively syndicated. but it’s set to record the new shit.

and fuck all the critics – i still think the new episodes of the simpsons rock!

but every now and again someone at fox 7 in austin gets lazy and forgets to write the episode description in the guide, which contains the meta data showing it’s a rerun, and so my dvr will end up snagging one or two of thirty when they do that. i occasionally still watch em, even though i know all of them are now streamed thru the mouse house, because they’re there. we used to throw them on at dinner to give os’s eyes a break from staring at the iphone screen 20 hours a day.

here’s what i never got…

several times these late night repeats get interrupted by the news. ya know – the “what did the nacho cheese dorito in chief fuck up today” show. but then, they don’t play the episode in its entirety when this happens. they join it “already in progress” so you miss big chunks of subplot or what have you. why do that? read the room! who the fuck is watching tv that late?

as with so much in life, the simpsons already covered it…back in the iconic mr. plow episode in late 1992. so fuck your agent orange hour…we get it, he’s embarrassing us again for his own gain. it happens so often, shouldn’t the news cover the off chance he does something COOL? you tell be the saudi government bought him flat out in an eBay auction and i don’t even blink. show me a pic of him helping get something off a shelf for an old lady? now THAT would be fucking news…because it’s more likely i’ll win the lottery.
