i guess some corporations wanna be more fun?
all i know it was annoying seeing all the cutesy fake ads and posts on tuesday while everyone tried to get in the “april fools day spirit”, as it were. torchy’s, an austin based taco chain, posted a fake taco of the month:

and there were others with fake emails and ads and shit. enough already – it’s not even a real holiday!
one big annoyance i’m still not sure how to deal with was snap fitness. it’s a small town gym chain that’s open 24/7 but has limited free weights as a result to try and curb lawsuits. our local one was apparently taken on by new owners recently (i had no idea) and i noticed a flyer up that said “$35 Annual Club Enhancement Fee – April 1st – What Should We Buy?”. i thought it was a prank for three reasons.
1. when i re-joined a year ago i asked if it was just my monthly dues i had to pay, no annual or renewal fees, and they agreed it was JUST my monthlies.
2. i never was notified nor agreed nor signed off on such fees.
3. when they wanted to announce no after-hours guests were allowed, or the new towel policy, flyers went up E V E R Y W H E R E in the gym, but this one was only up in one place, and kinda tucked away, so i didn’t think it was real. then the charge didn’t hit on the first with my monthly, i so i figured it wasn’t real. but then it hit on the second.
i don’t like being lied to or stolen from, both of which i feel happened here. so i’m gonna go in and politely ask for them to refund the charge. and if they don’t, that might be the end of that membership. while it is hella convenient, i don’t know if i want to support a business that lies and steals from me. so i need to figure out if it’s $35 worth of convenient or not.
