being a white boy who throws an annual bbq for a black holiday i feel obliged to server mexican food…
…to me, that all makes sense.
this year was pretty well attended with some first timers (the non-girlfriend, and matt (who used to work with harold at sharp things and had never even been to lockhart) and some repeats that hadn’t graced the door in a while (like james and harold, who brought matt). good times, great food (if i do say so myself) and a good amount of booze later everyone was out by around midnight (save for the non-girlfriend, who was out about an hour or so later). the one thing we were missing for a juneteenth?
black people.
hell, we had one last year to celebrate the 10th (or so) anniversary. but at least we never sunk to this…
this is exactly what it looks like. a young married couple, and their infant child, posing with a black guy because he’s…well…black. in their rural part of oregon, you don’t see a lot (make that any) of the black folk around so recently a booth was set up at the farmer’s market entitled “meet a black guy”.
you could meet him, ask him questions, and if you wanted to, take a picture of yourself with a real, live, black guy for free.
i am NOT making this up…
the idea was the brainchild of these two:
one of them is obviously the aforementioned “black guy”. due to some thinking this is racialist they’re thinking next time it will be “meet a black guy and/or a jewish white boy” since both appear to be lacking in the community rainbow that is rural oregon…
