muralistic monday

this was my coolest flashback to college ever

…check this shit out:
(and L.A.C. = Lockhart Athletic Club)

(you can’t tell by looking, but this thing is eight feet wide and almost ten feet high)

(this one is more like six by eight)

the back story:

recently i did a bit about street art (sorta) but didn’t talk about the fact i used to do it myself…and these are two of my favorites. i did these back when i was in college, the smaller of them being done on what ended up being my mom’s second to last birthday (and the last one where this gym was opened). the guy who ran the place wanted me to help decorate, so this is what i did. the bigger one was summer of 1993, the smaller summer (august 16th, to be precise) of 1994. i hadn’t seen these things since the winter of 1994 (when the gym was closed as my mom’s vision of the library expanding to that building was being realized) but now i ironically find myself doing most of the whore bits in the bottom floor of the building. i sweet-talked them into letting me up on the third floor and i got these pictures. it felt WAY weird to be back there after over a decade, since i used to go there four or five days a week when it was the gym. it was like stepping back into a time warp when life was less stressful and if i didn’t know better i was actually happy…

…i need to get back to that place. and i don’t mean that musty-assed room where my art is.
