fuck the faggots who can’t take a joke

i heard something on the radio the other day that offended me…

…now, before we go any further it should be noted – i have more than one radio gig on my resume, and that i got my degree in broadcasting in 1995. that being said, here’s what offended me:

dire strait’s hit song “money for nothing” – you know the one. the one that had the groundbreaking, award winning computer animated video and had sting himself chanting the “i want my Mtv” hook in the chorus. but it’s not the video OR sting that offended me – no, it was the radio station that played it…’cause they fucking CENSORED it!

some of you are understandably confused by this statement – as you play the song in your head, you can’t think of a single “fuck”, “shit”, or anything else remotely offensive in the song…but let me refresh your memory…

that little FAGGOT with the earring and the makeup
yeah buddy, that’s his own hair…
that little FAGGOT’s got his own jet airplane
that little FAGGOT, he’s a millionaire…

what the fuck?

this wasn’t meant as a derogatory term towards gays, per se. it was used as an expression. i don’t get it – with all the talk about how we moved forward, how is something that was not only non-offensive, but considered “award winning” and “groundbreaking” in 1985 (being the number one song for three weeks in a row AND winning a grammy that year) be “offensive” now?

sad state, this country…so, fuck all you folks who can’t take a joke. we don’t care you’re gay – be gay, be happy, and learn to enjoy good rock (and pop) music as it was written…it’s not meant to offend you.

promise…

…and don’t even get me started on the censoring of all in the family, where stuff that’s even a decade older is now “too much” for today’s audiences.

fucking get over yourself, people.
