i don’t think this was very well thought through…
the article went on to allege that while mercedes was trying to make their vehicles more DIY friendly that bmw was going the opposite direction by trying to patent logo screws to make them require more specialty tools and therefore be less friendly for people like myself that like to work on their own vehicles.
there’s two problems i see with this situation…
first off, if the patent hits (and i’ve since read it has) that seems odd because it’s an awful lot like the “tamper proof security bolts” they use on window bars, which you can totally tamper with, it’s just a pain in the ass…
(i removed dozens of these with a hammer, small flat head screwdriver, and a good bit of patience)
and secondly, if they go down this road (pun intended) i give it ninety days before amazon “finds something i might like” that looks like this…
ya can’t stop progress!
