x marks the spot?

so many people are freaking out over a new feature on the twitter…

…where it shows where, geographically, accounts are based.

so, for instance, in the article i read, it turns out the popular “MAGA NATION” account which is all pro agent apricot and god and country is located in “Eastern Europe (Non-EU)” belarus? moldova? – someplace you could tell someone “borat” was from and they’d buy it.

it doesn’t seem to drill down much deeper than that – american based accounts show they are based in “the united states”, and if you think that’s too specific what the fuck are you hiding?

it’s being done under the guise of transparency and, honestly, i agree with it. while most of the chest thumping right wing accounts are, in fact, based here, it’s nice to see the ones that aren’t being shown for what they are. personally, i think it’s high time people stopped hiding behind their keyboards and let a little light hit their face. it’s good for you. i have no problem looking someone in the eye and repeating anything i’ve written here, and i geo-tag myself constantly, so you have no question where this loud-ass opinion is resonating from.
