wake up!

since it’s in the news way more than it probably should be, i’d like to discuss the term “woke”…

…i was standing in a dorm on the campus of swt (not called “texas state”), and a friend of a friend had just discovered i was that sean, the one that hosted “bomb trax”, the campus radio hip-hop show. he had also just found out that not only did i host it, but that i had, in fact, created it.

“look at you all woke and shit”, was his response.

i then questioned the term, as i’d never heard it, and had it explained thusly…

“saying your ‘woke’ is saying you’re ‘awake’, or ‘aware’ of black, or at least non-white, culture…”, i was told.

as the term “don’t sleep on this” had been around awhile, and meant you shouldn’t ignore or skip out on something, this made sense. to be “woke” was the opposite of “sleeping”, or ignoring the situation.

it really is still used the same today, all be it demonized and, for the most part, bastardized. if you don’t sleep (i.e. “ignore”) certain facts about climate change, or lgbt folk, or racial discrimination, the maga crowd considers you “woke”, but they say it like it’s bad. how dare you acknowledge other cultures when you’re white, straight, male, and not only born that way but planning to stay that way, right? and if it ain’t an issue to them, why should it be to you, i guess?

what the fuck?

i keep the same rules i did when i was dating apps, where i spelled them out very clearly…

“i don’t care who you wanna fuck, as long as they’re a consenting adult, it doesn’t matter if they’re gay, straight, male, female, other, black, brown, whatever, sighted, blind, deaf, in a wheelchair, what have you – as long as both people are consenting adults, it’s nobody’s business but theirs, and if applicable, the camera crew.

my thing – no bathroom stuff, no food, animals, or kids, and i’m straight, so as long as you don’t try to alter any of this statement we’ll get along just fine…”

per usual, there’s just a whole lot of projection going on – the people that don’t want their kids “indoctrinated” tend to be the one trying to do so to yours…

(i am admittedly proud of them using such a big word correctly, though)

as far as the other stuff goes (DEI, slavery, epstein, etc) why can’t people on the right be willing to admit that mistakes were made and things weren’t done right? if you didn’t to it, then you shouldn’t be held responsible for it. and if you did, you should. plain and simple. trying to just pretend it didn’t happen doesn’t fix shit and doesn’t make things right – but at least owning that mistakes were made and acknowledging that things might never truly be correct in everyone’s eyes is a step in the right direction. to paraphrase abraham lincoln, “you can never please all of the people all of the time, but, at the very least, own your shit.”

or something like that.

but seriously, things are going off the rails here. perhaps a reset is needed, but i don’t think it needs to be this drastic. at this stage i’m not sure we as a nation can survive four years of this monarchy bullshit. guess time will tell…
