i’ll admit, i don’t see the problem here. yeah, she’s blonde, blue eyed, all american type. totally not MY type, but i’m also not their target audience for the campaign, i’ll reckon. in full transparency, as i type this, i am wearing american eagle camo cargo shorts, which they don’t even make any more (longer length, ultra-flex) to my knowledge. they picked a look, they did an ad. period. i don’t think there’s any arian undertones. yeah, they could have just as easily picked a model of color, but they didn’t. in the current american climate, and even in the past, the blue-eyed blonde sells. mansfield? nicole-smith? anderson-lee? muthaphukin monroe? it’s been done, and in jeans ads past, no less.

so is it the line? the “…good jeans” pun?

while it’s a bad dad joke on “good genes” i still think this is blown way out of proportion. anything “good” or “bad” is basically subjective, so why pander to that level of bullshit?

i’ll tell you how they should have pivoted…

no campaign like this launches without a plan “b”, “c”, etc…they have shots of other models in similar poses and attire. guaranteed. it would take ten minutes to spit out multiple versions, with multiple models, and said it was part of a series.
