tire math (again)

i have a problem…

…although i guess that goes without saying. shit, that could actually be the title of this site, honestly.

no, this is with the new ride. two of the wheels, so far, i have discovered are welded back together. on the back one it doesn’t seem to be a problem; but on the front one, who my tire guy said was “the cleanest rim weld i’ve ever seen”, it’s a different story. i’m having to add air literally every other day at a minimum.

and last night we hit a major hiccup when my portable air compressor broke. my theory is this will remain a problem until i finally switch the tires out for wider ones, and make them runflat so the stiffer side wall plus the added width will help “seal the deal”, as it were, with the rim.

but that, financially, is a ways off.

i might have to let my tires guys take another stab at it – we did a “slime it up” seal job previously that alleviated the problem for about ten days. maybe a little scrubbing next time before we slime again will make a difference? i’m not sure – but what i AM sure about is i had that recurring problem with betty’s front wheel right before the deer incident that at one point almost left me stranded in lakeway, but i had a spare for her in the trunk. this ride has no spare and isn’t on runflat tires, so it’s a little more of a concern. and i didn’t spend all the time and effort and money to get another car to have the same fucking problem. fun fact – both betty and m have this problem on the left front tire. talk about déjà vu!
