so, about the prequel to the show the other day…
…i somehow stumbled across the fact that the lbj library, which is really close to where the show was being held, had a display that wrapped this past weekend that had been curated by bruce springsteen and was entitled “music america”.
keep your eye out – apparently it’s on tour!
its a good bit of cool stuff, including…
bo diddley’s signature homemade guitar
dizzy gilespie’s trumpet (and that’s sinatra’s bow tie and eukelele above)
hendrix’s flying v
prince’s guitar and blouse from ‘purple rain’
madonna’s ‘like a virgin’ dress
lucille
chuck d’s hat and ‘fight the power’ lyrics
and, of course, and austin icon made an appearance…
there was also stuff from wille, johnny cash, elvis, kurt cobain, michael jackson, robert johnson, etc, etc, etc…only sixteen bucks, totally worth it!
my original plan was do this and leave our cars as they close at 5pm and doors for the show, only two blocks away, were at 5:30, but alas they kick you out by 4:45 so they can chain up their parking by 5pm, and they are extra diligent about it on the night of a moody center show, so we ended up parking a couple blocks further away and hiking it. but if this comes through your area, it’s really a great curation!
