some things are just blasphemous…
…and i don’t know if some recent music headlines can get more so.
“‘Glee’ Topples Beatles Record for Most Hit Singles
that’s just sad…but true. the beatles, in their entire history, have charted seventy-one songs. ever. third on the list of “all time charters” as far as number of singles to hit the billboard charts behind elvis and james brown (bet that last one surprised you). but in their first season the gayest network show ever (or so i’m told), “glee” has now had it’s cast chart seventy-FIVE singles, beating out the beatles by four.
that’s just sad.
as a buddy and i were discussing, you have to look at some generational differences – back when the beatles were around if you wanted something you had to LEAVE YOUR HOUSE. go to a record store (there was no target, best buy, wal-mart, border’s, or whatever) and buy a record. or towards the end of their run, tape. hell (dating myself) back when i joined the columbia record and tape club in junior high you had FOUR options on how to get your music…and MP3 or CD weren’t on the list! (LP, cassette, eight track, and reel-to-reel were). now you see something on tv, walk over to your computer, point, click, done. before the songs even over on the screen you own it. lot easier these days.
still a sad day for music, though. industry experts predict the godfather of soul’s record (ninety-one charted singles) will be beat by mid-2011 at this rate…again by the gleeks.
i think elvis (one hundred and eight) is safe…for now. but if his gets all shook up, i may just pack it in.

What is this Glee? I hear about it but don’t have spare moment to watch it.
