my black friday experience took twenty-six minutes…
…and ten of that was ’cause the sales girl wanted a tattoo consultation. got the coop ministry poster framed and matted. looks good. no more viernes negros for me.
this is one of only a few cool things about most of your family being in the ground – xmas is really not a big financial deal. a couple friends, a gift card my sister pays me back for the uncle, and i’m pretty much done. i was GOING to try and take advantage of some ultra-low lcd tv prices today but i’m on the fence as to whether or not to spend the money OR what size to get. the one size i’d considered was only $20 off, and i think i might go bigger anyway…
…so there we are.
plus, i’m a few bucks away from getting a $100 gift card from best buy courtesy of my check card so i figure if i can get that in hand pre-xmas (or just after for after xmas sales) i’ll come out ahead in the long run.
so my shopping’s done and i even had time for a lovely meal with a lovely girl – how’d everybody else come out?

Surely you’ve figured this out by now…
Black Friday is called that because it’s a reference to profit margins… you know, when you’re “in the red” you’re losing money, so being “in the black” means you’re doing well. The Friday after Thanksgiving is a HUGE day for retailers… the profits they make that day can sometimes take them into huge profit margins for the entire year. Hence (yes, I used the word Hence), Black Friday. 🙂 I actually only figured this out last year when I finally wondered out loud why Black Friday was called that.
p.s. Quit spending money you don’t have!!!!
see, mom (called you that ’cause of the “spend money you…” comment) i always thought that, but then shane said it had to do with some traffic issue in chicago or something from people going out to shop…will be touching on this again tomorrow a bit…
Yup, the term was coined by Chicago police refering to all the accidents in traffic.
I had a wonderful time at lunch, thank you! I did pick up a couple of “black friday” specials for myself. Hold off on that TV!
