…when i think about you, i cut myself.
i think this is that “generation gap” i used to hear so much about as a kid.
the other day i was hanging at the tattoo shop where herald works and a girl came in, came up to me, and asked if she could cover some scars she had with tattoos so they weren’t so visible. she then proceeded to lift her sleeve and show me equally spaced, perfectly symmetrical cuts around her wrist and forearms. some of you might not know, but at the end of “tattoos & piercings…” on some signs there’s also “branding and scarification”. some people pay good money to get what she’s got. when i asked her where they came from (figuring i already knew) i got the answer i totally expected…
“i cut myself…”
the fact she said it didn’t really spook me – it was her tone of voice and overall demeanor in doing so. she said “i cut myself” in the same tone most girls would say “i get my nails done” or “i like to go shoe shopping” – with this attitude like it was just part of a girl growing up today…
…what the fuck?
i had to pull a house and ask if she listened to the same tori or sarah cd while she did it. she just laughed that off with the kind of nervous giggle that implied i knew TOO much about this sort of thing, and while there’s only been one “cutter” in my past (no names mentioned) if you’re one of my younger readers, SEE THIS AS A SIGN and bail a relationship with these people.
seriously.
this is NOT normal.
nothing pretty will come of this.
i don’t care what little miss thing said…she’s a UT THEATER major for christ’s sake – if that doesn’t scream “drama queen” in more than one sense of the phrase i don’t know what does!
of course, if you happen to cut your self TOO and find a potential soul mate that does, then i guess the more the misery-er!
