incredible sex…intense fear…a damn stiff drink and a damn fine cigar. all things that get my heart racing (there are others, but we won’t go into that now…most of them fall under that first one on the list, anyway…swizzle stick, anyone?) but NONE of them compare to that heart rush that i had this morning and lately have had a bit TOO damn often…
you’re lying there, and all is well. under the covers, slightly chilly in the room…ceiling fan going over your head, but you’re just warm enough to be in perfect hibernation. still in a slightly dream-like state, you drift in and out of reality, and a slight turn of your head brings a red glow into your path of vision…the crimson blur on the horizon slowly starts to unblur and come into focus as the repetitive buzzing noise that was once so distant seems to get louder as you come back to consciousness and all of a sudden it has gone from the back of your mind to piercing your skull as the focusing of the redness is complete and you see the glowing 8:30 before your eyes. and you KNOW your clock is fast…thirty minutes fast, so it’s really only 8:00. but WHAT time do you need to leave the house to be at work on time?
8:00!!! FUCK!!!
your thirty minute pre-work ritual is condensed…dramatically. shave? i WORK tonight, not some sort of fun, social plan, so that’s off the list. button-up? no dice…just grab a t-shirt, shorts, and GO!!! (post shower, of course…some things just HAVE to happen. and that was an eye opener, too. somehow, some way, the hot water heater got turned down to where at the HOTTEST setting it was tepid at best…calum and buff, i am SO looking in your direction, since that IS in your room). feet hit floor at 8:00…feet hit GAS PEDAL by 8:13…and that included getting all the pups food and water to last since i DO work a show tonight. not bad. not bad at all.
i need a wake-up service, i guess. the wake-up calls i get are nice (VERY nice), but i think some sort of drill instructor-type service is getting required. although last time, when we were getting close to the time change, i went through this for a few weeks. it’s like my body’s rhythm KNOWS it’s coming, and tries to prepare accordingly. so, maybe after next weekend when we fall back, all will be well. or maybe i can set up an IV with an ephedrine drip that starts about an hour before i actually wake up to where i wake up amped. or of course, there’s always that most pleasant of options…but never mind that now.
