millennial monday misinformation?

i’d like to give the newer generation more credit in this bit than i was originally gonna…

…because this just CAN’T be right.

but tonight is my buddy’s retirement party as he closes his restaurant due to stress – and the cause of his stress? staffing issues. he hires people, they show up for a week or two, and then simply stop showing up. it’s like they find out work is actually “WORK” and not “SUPER HAPPY FUN TIME” and they can’t handle it. and all the disappearing employees just happen to be millennials.

on my way to CBQ for the last time i went to the aveda store to see if the shampoo i bought two years ago was even still made (it is, but they didn’t have the liter bottles) and i noticed the place seemed pretty empty. not devoid of customers, mind you, but devoid of staff. the manager echoed the same sentiment, that he “hires people, they show up for a week or two, and then simply stop showing up”.

i wondered if this was a new braunfels phenomenon, but when i went to the gym last friday my buddy rick was working the counter. this wouldn’t be strange, because he does WORK there, but it WAS strange because he’s the general manager. when i asked where the counter staff was, i heard…

“…hires people, they show up for a week or two, and then simply stop showing up…”

and that’s in north austin. i started looking around – there are help wanted signs EVERYWHERE. but where the fuck are the people? i know unemployment is low and shit, but it ain’t ZERO. there are people that NEED work. where the fuck are they? my original thought was this was the latest “everybody gets a trophy generation” showing up for an actual job, finding out they don’t just get money handed to them, and that they actually have to WORK for it, and then bailing, but that can’t be right, can it? it’s just coincidence that this generation is the first where the most common domicile for ages 18-34 is STILL WITH MOM AND FUCKING DAD, right?
