how low did it go?

i got cinemax for free a couple weekends ago…

…and my dvr went from “78% free” to “17% free” in four days.

most of the stuff i got i’d seen before, but didn’t mind seeing it again. i’d say about 60% was that way. but a good chunk of it was also “classics”. now by that i don’t mean “gone with the wind” or “casablanca” – i mean “wayne’s world” and “coming to america” and such. and that’s where the game comes in…

“wow – look how cheap gas was!”

i did a bit recently about how blank CD’s are cheaper than blank cassettes, so at least one part of our world got better AND cheaper at the same time…but this one can depress you. when you watch “beverly hills cop” and see that gas in 1984 in detroit was a buck o’ six, and it’s now more than three times that much, that kinda sucks.

i can remember as a kid my mom would get “five dollars worth” of gas from the FULL SERVICE side of the station and it would get us through the week – including a friday night family trip into austin. now that same amount wouldn’t even get you TO austin from here, let alone back and around for the next week to school, baseball practice, church, etc, etc. and they say it’ll only go up from here? fuck this – i need to buy an electric car!

Used to, I could fill up my tank with ten bucks and get some change… then when it got to where ten bucks didn’t quite fill my tank I complained bitterly and declared “someone’s got to do something!”

Nowadays, it’s “3.44?! Wow, it’s coming back down!” Depressing.
