sound snob alert!

and that snob would be…

…me!

i’ve noticed a trend that i think we need to stop. back when i was a kid, you shared your music (and i don’t mean making copies) by a big ass radio at full blast…

the sound quality typically wasn’t audiophile quality, but it wasn’t terrible. then came walkmens, which gave birth to discmans, and finally ipods – and no more sharing.

and that, in my opinion, was okay.

but now there’s an ugly new trend – playing music via your phone OUT OF YOUR SPEAKERPHONE. we had a customer do it the other day – at first, i thought he just had a musical ringtone and his phone was going off…but i walked out of the room, came back ten minutes later, and it was still going, but on a different song. i snatched the phone off his lap, walked across the room, and plugged some speakers (with a subwoofer) into the headphone port. the room filled with bass-ridden, rich sound. all good, all cool.

that speakerphone sound was driving me bat shit. full blown guano loco. i figured it was isolated.

than came the gym this morning – different guy, different music, same concept. shitty sound, just loud enough to annoy the piss out of me. what the fuck? if anybody sees this, holler at ’em…literally. and if you do this annoying practice yourself, just stop. get some earbuds. or hook up to some speakers. and if you can’t actually HEAR the difference? get to a doctor…NOW!
