the other day, while we had dinner, i had just left MTV classic up while we had dinner…

…the channel freaked os out.

he sat there, glancing back at it, trying to figure out what was going on. he had a puzzled look on his face. i finally had to ask, “what’s the problem, bud?”. his answer was shocking to his mother and me…

“so, does this station just play music videos or something? and NOTHING else?

we almost spit out our food laughing, but then it occurred to us – his generation has NO clue that music videos were what started MTV. to him and his it’s the station that plays “sixteen and pregnant” and “real world” and shit…but for some odd reason has music video AWARDS every year, even though they don’t even really play them…

(for the record they still do, but typically from 1am-8am or so)

he didn’t even know the “M” in “MTV” stood for music. and why the fuck would he? he’s the generation detached from music being something that’s ever paid for or held in your hand. the device that PLAYS it can be held in your hand. shit, even the ticket to see the band isn’t held in your hand – they just scan your phone. he listens to shit for free off youtube. he has an apple music account we pay for he never uses. i don’t know if he even knows how. he knows the SHIT outta finding stuff on youtube, though, using more data on our plan then me and his mother COMBINED…

(this is mainly due to the fact that when we stream music most of the time we’re at home or work where wifi is free…wait till i get a car where i can plug my phone in and i’ll kick his ass!)
