back to the grill again

okay, since the title got the song stuck in my head…

there, that’s better.
(and for all my hip-hop head readers, yes that’s NAS two full years before the release of his debut album)

so, i’m not sure where to go from here. my boss’s place is ideal for the juneteenth bbq and last year pretty much rocked (‘cept shane wasn’t there, but work does that to folks when you do it on a thursday) and it’s north austin, not so much so that austin people won’t head out, but north enough that round rock and p-ville folk feel comfy showing up…plus, it’s my boss so i think a lot of my co-workers feel like they’re insulting him if they skip out…

…or maybe they genuinely like me?

but the house is back on the market (as of yesterday) and i’ve been told once it goes under contract they’re cool with co-hosting because then a deal is locked and they aren’t dealing with people coming by to see it…but if that doesn’t happen by the end of this weekend i might just have to pull it because i’m not a fan of sending out the invite any later than ten days prior, so then i gotta figure out where we go…

…i’m not used to this actually being stressful.

from 1997-2003 i always did these at my house. in 2004 we moved it off-site for the first time to kathi’s place, but it didn’t go well (i drank way too much crown, and shane will now skip straight to the comments section to tell the story about me (jokingly) holding a knife to his throat when i thought he wanted to fuck my sister)…so in 2005 we brought it back home, where it stayed again from 2005-2006 but then went to my girl tina’s in round rock in 2007, which went well save for a strange new york girl licking my head (don’t ask) and so we did one more at the house in 2008 and then moved to harold’s pimp-ass poolside apartment for 2009-2011…his marriage and move to hawaii took it to the boss’s for 2012, the ufc’s apartment for 2013, and then back to my boss’s for 2014…and maybe 2015?

if not, what of the old sites could be revisited? not kathi’s, as that was a train wreck, there’s no pool, and if i’m gonna do lockhart i might as well do it at our place. the ufc is no longer in that apartment (thankfully), and harold’s in hawaii, so even if we fence hop for the cool pool at his old place the lack of restrooms coupled with that “might get kicked out at any moment” factor takes away from things a bit. that goes back to the tina one, which she’s not at that place anymore, but her new place is nice, and has a pool – the only reason i didn’t lean towards that initially was location…waaaaaaaaaay north east round rock. like east of the toll road, north of dell kinda north east. it would be cool to finally get some quality time with her and her husband, so if he doesn’t mind me taking over his grill it might be a consideration, although that would probably move it to friday and make most of my atomic family bail because of work, but so it might go if we head that way…

…and next year is the twentieth, but it’s also my forty-fifth AND the ten year mark since i’ve last been to vegas so we might do it as a pre-party here at our place or just say “fuck it” and do it pool-side in vegas. or ocean side in hawaii with harold? or talk kramer into losing a month of revenue so we can do it in port aransas? stay tuned for this year, and then we’ll make next year pretty fucking epic…
