glass shards in my pocket

i don’t think i like leasing…

…don’t get me wrong – i like the fact that, in the long run, it saved us money.

we leased our iPhone 6’s, and all in, for two 64gb ones and a 16gb one we pay twenty-five bucks a month in lease payments. all said and done that will equal out to $240 for each of the bigger ones (vs $299 for buying it with a contract) and $120 for the smaller (vs $199) so we did good financially…yeah, we can’t sell the fuckers when we get done but guess what – we never sold our fives, and last i checked they’re not worth much because of all the deals that are going on with the 6’s…

…so no great loss, i reckon.

but then comes the worry – the lease contract was ridiculously long, so of course you don’t really read it, and while i don’t expect some surprise balloon payment at the end or anything, i did hear (and i have no idea if it’s true) that you have to return the phones in pretty much new condition with little to no wear. this is partially why we didn’t get them till we had cases; play it safe and shit! problem is, the case i actually wanted was on kickstarter or whatever the fuck so i had to pre-order (not charged or anything, though) and wait till april…which has now (with no email or anything, i just happened to check back) been pushed to may.

not fucking cool.

in the interim i got an all metal case what wasn’t too heavy, screwed together, and had a built-in “gorilla glass” screen protector that, for all the world, felt like it was just plastic – and given the fact the case sold for $25 on amazon, i figured it was…

…apparently it wasn’t, going off the fact i had to pull glass shards out of my pocket this morning.

the case had seemed bullet-proof…it was metal, screwed together, and wasn’t too pricey. seemed like a great fit for a guy who was planning on dropping serious coin for a serious case whenever funding and engineering melted together properly – but this morning i dropped it in my pocket and felt it hit my keys, which i typically (but not always) remove when i put it in my pocket. “nope”, i thought to myself, and switched to the pocket with my money clip, which i’m guessing set right on the screen protector and applied just the right pressure when i squatted down to grab something at the shop – because when i started my morning rituals with pete rock & c.l. smooth blaring (their song is in a commercial right now even though it’s from 1991 and was stuck in my head with me re-living my old college radio hip-hop show as a result) all was well, but when i pulled it out of my pocket after the taco deli run the screen protector was cracked…

…fuck me, at least it wasn’t the screen!

so now anything i do with my phone is cutting up my finger. yesterday i got to upgrade two guns in the middle of the night when i got home before i woke the ufw…i guess tonight i’m busting glass out of my phone case? the new one is en route, and the ufw grabbed us screen protectors at target earlier, but it was $60 i wasn’t looking to spend. shit, i guess it beats a new screen…

Last time I replaced an iPad screen, it was about $200…

Last iPhone screen, on a 3, was just under $100…
