you kids today have no idea…

it’s kinda of funny – on the day this is being written i’m having an oddly themed issue…

…let me explain.

the other day i was watching 120 minutes (which used to air sunday nights on MTV showcasing alternative music videos and now runs most weeknights super late on vh1 classic) and saw a tears for fears video. “didn’t curt smith (guitar player) do a solo thing?”, i wondered. and then it hit me – when this show originally aired i would have to drive to waterloo or sundance (i hate calling with probing questions like this) and ask a clerk if he did and if they had it. if they had it, mystery solved. if not, and they hadn’t seen it, they’d have to look in a catalog, or put it on a list of things to ask the distributor about, and then they’d call you (or you’d have to call them) and see if it could be had, and how much it was, and if it was import only or even released yet, or whatever. it was a PROCESS. it took days if not weeks or months. and if it HAD been out, but was no longer made, then you had to go trolling around the used bin in the back of sound exchange or whatever and see if you could find it…

…now you know via google in mere moments. and can order off amazon or ebay on your phone and have hard product in days or soft product (i.e. downloads) in seconds.

oh, you kids today…

today i had “your issues” – a friend was all psyched ’cause on halloween (his anniversary) he had tickets to see prodigy…but i knew if they were coming i would have heard about it. turned out it was one of the guys (maxim) doing a dj set: not the whole band. we looked up a set of his on youtube and the set (and the sound quality) was pretty bad…but i found one on soundcloud today and it was fucking awesome. i wanted to bump it on the way home so i tried to download it, even downloading a program that said it made all things on soundcloud downloadable all to no avail. yeah, i can rock it on my phone, but that just ain’t the same.

ah, white people problems.

so now hopefully no icky shit came with that non-working program (taken off cnet, so i’ll trust i’m fine) and i still can’t rock it in the car. any of you white folk out there have any ideas?
