my (not-so) smartphone downgrade

i have now been a crack(berry) head for twenty-two hours…

…and so far, not so good.

the good:

due to my bitching i got almost $200 in credits off this and next months bill, and the thing is returnable for another twenty-nine days and three hours…not that i’m counting. at this point this is all i have for the “good” category…

(oh yeah – the camera, which is 5mp vs 2mp has a flash…that i’ve missed)

the bad:

i lost my five free landlines. my phonebook didn’t transfer because sprint’s backup software isn’t blackberry compatible. my ringtones are impossible to locate, my photos haven’t been transferred, the holster doesn’t fit right (TOTALLY not their fault there – i bought third party), my email won’t sign in (somehow typing the same thing FOUR times fixed that – although it still won’t show any of the archival messages, just the ones that have come in since the blackberry started on the account) and the clock was an issue. voicemail had to be completely re-set up, which caused it to erase all my old messages AND the two that were in when i deactivated the old phone, my all my other phones weren’t “smart” phones, and they knew what time it was…and i don’t mean that in the hip-hop vernacular – i mean it LITERALLY knew the time. the blackberry you have to TELL it what time it is. and where you are. where’s the “smart” part i’m paying ten bucks extra a month for?

the ugly:

pretty much all covered by the bad. it’s not a bad looking phone. if i can get all the pics and contacts and email shit sorted out in the next day or two this thing might stay around…but so far i miss my old phone, and i don’t typically envy my old phone when i get the new one. i guess the REAL ugly part here is i got the lotus elite ’cause it was the first phone (that i had seen) that was a flip phone with a full keyboard. i upgraded to the lg lotus elite ’cause it was a truly improved version…but apparently only i thought so. next time i looked it was totally gone off the website but you could get refurbs of the first generation one for free. the only flip left new was the blackberry, and when that one hit fifty bucks i knew i needed to jump while it was still there. we’ll do an update in a couple weeks and see how this puppy barks…
