do-over day, part ii

for all of you looking for a “part i” you probably won’t find it…

…’cause technically part i was yesterday, sorta.

see, this week i sorta, kinda have four days off. not really, but somewhat. see, i didn’t work till late on monday, so with me not leaving the house till almost four it FELT like a monday off as i used to work more during the day on monday. i’ve always tried to keep my weekends balanced, whereby one day i’m a lazy sack of shit that gets next to nothing accomplished (the kind of day where watching tv constitutes “cleaning” off the dvr and that’s all the cleaning that gets done) and then the next day is laundry, yard work, etc, etc.

since i felt like monday was kind of a wash of a day i decided THAT would be the lazy day, and then i would be all sorts of productive on tuesday and wednesday…but one call from shane about changing our happy hour plans to lunch and a movie and tuesday became the lazy day it’s been for a while now (my weekend is currently tuesday-wednesday for all those that don’t know my schedule personally)…so off to logan’s we went for our typical “split the two meals for $13.99 deal”, which i will still attest to being one of the best food values on a good meal you’ll find. to plug the special – all day monday-tuesday-wedneday, and 3pm-6pm thursday and friday. typically great food at a great price…

…yesterday was an atypical day.

my “medium rare” steak came out charred on the bottom (which is neither medium NOR rare, let alone medium rare, for all my vegetarian and vegan readers who might not know such things) and shane couldn’t slice his fish with a fork, which is typically a sign of less-than-cooked or just plain “off” fish. while shane has been on a sushi kick lately (which i still don’t get) this was not the time nor place for it, so our food got sent back…

…when it returned my steak was more like medium-well with no pink to be seen (always said i like my steak like my women – brown on the outside, pink on the inside) and after only a couple bites turned to the tenderness of my nike. shane said his fish was tender but still tasted “off” and tapped out with after a few bites. add to that some snide comments from the staff (personal jab at me which the back story is too long to put here) and this has to be my worst logan’s experience ever – and the rest have been really good. i’ll go back to logan’s, but NOT the san marcos one, and my online review was FAR from kind (their fault for giving me a receipt that requested i do such a thing for a discount on my next visit).

to add insult to injury there was NO discount on the tab after all this bullshit.

moving on to the movie portion we saw green hornet. i really enjoyed the mix of comedy and action and always love me some real-d 3D. what i didn’t love wasn i had no idea it was gonna be IN 3D so i wore my glasses, which meant wearing the real-d glasses over mine. while that worked, it wasn’t comfy – fortunately the movie was only about ninety minutes versus some avitar-length opus…but neither shane nor myself enjoyed the $8.25 price tag for getting the 3D “experience”, mainly ’cause we both had financial fuck-ups that day that were NOT our fault but still caused mid-month budgets to be strained…

…so between the restaurant debacle, the movie price, and our moods the day was shot on more than one level. once i got home i just downed a bottle of wine and “cleaned” the dvr over some puppy bonding – and thus was the end of tuesday.

so, today, i’ll have a “do-over day”, and i call it part ii since yesterday was technically SUPPOSED to be the “do-over” for being lazy on monday. here’s to hoping today proves more fruitful, although i AM planning a san marcos workout and (shane, if you’re gonna be around) a happy hour at sean pat’s later…that’s the reason i hadn’t been to the san marcos logan’s in a while, and maybe i was really on to something there…
