happy birfmas!

i just had a friend hand me something interesting…

…a cd entitled “we wish you a metal xmas and a headbanging new year”. interesting. oddly enough, i just started this bit when she did it, and this WAS about how i don’t like xmas too much and i think the inundation of the music has a lot to do with it. i haven’t listened to it yet, but i doubt this will change much. my tree expresses my spirit nicely:

it’s not that i hate ALL xmas tunes, just the majority of them. the more traditional ones, at least. the first holiday tune that i ever enjoyed was “santa’s rap” by the treacherous three, which was in the movie beat street. there’s still a soft spot in my heart for band aid’s “do they know it’s christmas?”. same with “christmas in holis” from run dmc. i also kinda dig donny hathaway’s “this christmas” and the recently discovered “it’s the holidaze” by westside connection. and i guess you can’t go wrong with “happy xmas (war is over) from john lennon. but that’s really about it…

(…wait – in editing i just realized that was six, and since this AIN’T sunday, i’ll add U2’s “christmas (baby, please come home) to the list).

so, yeah – that’s lucky number seven songs i can think of i like…NONE of them too traditional. what might i be missing?

I love Christmas in Hollis…I should have made plans to visit this weekend! Can’t drive with my missing tail light though, too far and too much risk of a ticket!
